How to Save Money on Your Business’s HVAC System

Jul 24, 2018 | General HVAC

As a business owner, you probably want to keep your overhead at a reasonable level. You also want to protect your investments. That way, you get the most out of what you paid for.

You invested in an HVAC system because you want your business to be a comfortable environment for customers and employees alike. With a few additional enhancements to your HVAC, you can lower your electricity bill and protect your unit’s life span.

Here’s two upgrades to your HVAC system that can save you money:

Economizers

If it becomes hot and stuffy at home, you have the luxury of opening a window and letting cool air blow in. Unfortunately, larger spaces like offices, stores, or manufacturing facilities won’t cool down as easily.

That’s where the economizer comes in. Economizers ventilate large amounts of cool air from the outdoors into your commercial space. When the air outside is in the 60-69º F range, the economizer will kick on. This option uses much less electricity than your AC, and therefore saves you plenty at the end of the month. This also means your air conditioner doesn’t have to work as hard, so it will last much longer.

There are numerous types of economizers, including single enthalpy, differential enthalpy, and dry bulbs. To figure out the best option for you and your business, a technician from B & C Mechanical can assist you. We’ll find you the perfect match for your building and budget.

Hail Guards

As you probably know, most businesses’ HVAC units are located on the roof. This puts them in the line of fire for all precipitation. Though they aren’t an everyday occurrence, a single hail storm can do significant damage to your HVAC system. Hail can chip or break many of the HVAC unit’s internal parts, most commonly the fins. After a bad storm, your unit may become damaged beyond repair. This would result in a costly replacement, and require temporary business closure.

Hail guards are metal netting that can be installed over your unit. They are a tiny fraction of the cost required to fix hail damage. If you didn’t have them installed when you had your HVAC system put in, our team can help you make the upgrade.
